I brought 2 books to Oronsko - my mother's old Polish cook-book and A History of Scotland. These represent my dual heritage.
I decided that the work practice would be an inherent part of the final installation. I worked 10 hours a day constructing components made entirely from the books. The expanded form built up from these pieces would symbolize the new European Union, however the obsessive nature of manufacture and limited material would describe the contrasting unhealthy focus of seclusion and nationalism. The Scots are often criticized for being greedy, The Poles praised for their ingenuity . It is the 2 sides of the same story.
